Los baños, la cocina y más
So I´ve had some issues trying to figure out how to flush toilets here. The one at our house has a button on top of the tank. I attempted to push it, but it didn´t work. Then I realized it was actually a knob that turns, so I was thinking that I was supposed to turn the knob. That didn´t work either. Eventually I realized that the knob pulled up and that´s how the toilet flushes. Sandra had the same problem, so I don´t feel so bad about it. Today, we were at a café taking a break from walking around and it took me a minute to figure out that toilet too. It had a button that you push on the back of it.
This morning at breakfast, Sandra and I were the only 2 at the house and we fixed toast. We pulled 5 different jellies out of the fridge and tried every one of them. There was violet jelly (yes, like the flower), rose jelly, strawberry jelly, papaya and orange jelly, and honey. We had all of them open on the table with a separate knife for each one. We would spread one on a corner of the toast to taste it. They were all good, the violet one actually did taste like violets smell, but the rose jelly didn´t taste like roses at all. There is the coolest coffee maker in the kitchen. You choose how strong you want your coffee, put the cup under it and press a button. It grinds the beans and dispenses the coffee in the cup. It makes amazing coffee. :)
My host family is really nice. There is a mom, a dad, their daughter (Clara), and a guy who is a student here who has been living with them for 5 years (or somthing like that), his name is Victor. They have a dog named Acarnito (I think that´s his name). He looks like a golden retriever, but he´s more blond than golden.
Yesterday, I was thinking what have I gotten myself into, I can´t live here for a month! Today, I feel a lot better. We had our orientation session today. Classes start tomorrow. Friday, we´re taking a trip to Segovia for the day.
This afternoon, after our 3:00 lunch, Sandra and I went to find where the school is and to get one month metro passes. We´re becoming very comfortable with Madrid very quickly. Sometimes I keep forgetting that we´re not in the states anymore, then I try to communicate with someone and remember that I´m definitely not.

Hehe..ditto on what your mom said about reading your posts. I check it every evening to see how things went and love it that you've been able to update. That's funny about the toilets. I'm assuming that you're feeling like we did in New York (getting familiar with everything). I'm glad that you're getting more comfortable. I knew you would!

Sorry I didn't get back to you before you left. I haven't gotten any voicemails since I came to Utah, cause my phones dead. I'm excited to hear about your trip especially as it goes along. This was a really good idea.
It sounds like fun (but then I love big cities), even with your flushing issues. :)
