León
Friday night, I went to Kapital with Sandra. It´s supposedly the hottest night club in Madrid. It was pretty cool. There are like 7 floors that all look out to the dance floor on the 1st floor. There´s a bar on every floor and there are different lounges and stuff off to the side of some floors. There was a kareoke bar on one floor, which was amusing. We ended up meeting these guys from Mexico who are visiting in Spain. We talked to them for a little bit. They spoke English fluently, so half the conversation was in Spanish and half was in English.
Saturday, we left for León. It was a 4 hour bus ride, which ended up being a nice nap. We had a 2 hour lunch as soon as we got there. It was like 3 courses and really good. All 30 of us were at this really long table. It was fun to relax and talk with each other while we ate. After lunch we went to an old monastery and then an old castle.
We spent Saturday and Sunday nights in a little town called Molinaseca. It´s an old town with narrow cobblestone streets. It was so cute. We were split up into 2 hostals. The one I was in was basically a house. It was me & 4 of my friends and one of the professors in the whole place. It had a kitchen and living area, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a patio out back. Everyone else was in a hostal down the street.
Sunday, we went hiking. We hiked to a river and played in the water for a while before hiking back. We had a picnic by a swimming hole in the town and some people went swimming, but the water was really cold. After lunch, we went to Las Medulas. It´s old gold mines. We were supposed to take the bus all the way up the mountain, but the streets were a little narrower than the bus, so we had to get off and walk 1.7 km up this steep road, but it was totally worth it. The view was incredible and we got to go in one of the mines. My legs are still sore from all the walking we did Sunday.
Monday, we left Molinaseca and went to León, it was about a 1.5 hour drive. We saw the Catedral de León and some other church/museum place, I´m not sure what it´s called. The catedral was beautiful. It had a lot of stained glass in it.
We had another 2 hour, 3 course lunch in León before coming back to Madrid. I was so full from lunch yesterday, that I still wasn´t hungry when I went to bed 8 or 9 hours later and I couldn´t even finish all my food. It´s amazing how much Madrid feels like home now. Last night, it felt so good to be back ¨home¨in Madrid. It was nice to have some cooler weather for the weekend, as soon as we got back to Madrid at 11:00 last night we were reminded of how hot it is here.
Today is a free day, so Sandra and I are trying to cram in the last few things that we want to do in Madrid before we leave on Thursday. We´re going to try to go to a movie, do a little shopping and ride the bus around a different part of town to see some stuff that our professor was telling us about last week. Tonight, Spain´s fútbol team has another game. We might go to a bar with some friends and watch some of it. Go Spain!
