Pajaros

This is the post I wrote yesterday (Thursday) and couldn´t post because the computer wasn´t cooperating.

So I don´t think the birds here are afraid of anything. Sandra and I were sitting outside at a café yesterday and there were pigeons everywhere. They were walking under our chairs and one landed on our table. I wasn´t too crazy about it and I jumped everytime a bird ruffled its feathers or flew at us. Sandra seemed to think it was pretty funny. I didn´t want them pooping on me or landing on my head or anything.

I spent pretty much all afternoon on Wednesday working on homework. What a way to spend my time in Spain! At least I have my journals turned in now and I don´t have class again until Monday! I realized today that I only have 8 days of actual class left. That´s CRAZY! Sandra and I were going to go explore a different park on Thursday and chill there for the afternoon, but the metro broke, so we went and chilled at a fountain near our house and then went to a café near the house.

I figured out why night life is such a big thing here. It´s because it´s so hot during the day! It´s really pleasant at night though, so I decided that everyone goes out at night because it´s a lot cooler. The heat here is very dry, I can´t imagine what it would be like if it were humid too. Spain is currently having a drought, and has been for the last few years. We have to conserve water, such as turning the water off while we soap up when we´re taking a shower and then turning it back on to rinse off. At least we´re not in the south. Apparently in the south, they cut the water off at night (kinda like when I was in Nicaragua) because they don´t have many water sources. We have water all the time in Madrid because there are more water sources in this area, we just have to limit our use of water.

Friday, we go to Toledo. I´ve heard good things about it, so I´m looking forward to going! Last week, when I posted my schedule, I think I put that we eat dinner around 8´30pm. Well, I now we eat some time between 9´30 and 10´30pm. I think they were just going easy on us last week by feeding us early and they´ve been easing us into eating so late. During the week I basically shower and go to bed after dinner because I have to get up early for class. It´s crazy, but it´s nice having so much time between meals because I have time to go do stuff and still be back before dinner.

:) Glad to hear you're still doing well! It's a great feeling not to have classes and stuff when I get away from work. Today was the end of my first real work week and it seems to be going very well! I actually have a mailbox in my department and it had mail in it :-P Oh, and you sound like me with the birds. When I was at the beach once I was so afraid because I thought "they were all going to poop on me". Luckily they didn't. So just watch out!

When I was growing up, we had well water that ran out if we used too much too fast, so I had to take showers like you now have to. If I wanted to take a bath, I could have 2 inches in the tub. We are so spoiled, aren't we?!
